Cliff NOBLES est né le 4 août 1941 à Groove Hill en Alabama. Il est principalement connu pour l'instrumental "The horse" qui se classe à la 2ème place du Hot 100 du Billboard en 1968.
Il s'installe à Philadelphie et y enregistre trois simples sur Atlantic sans rencontrer le succès.
Il forme un groupe qui prend le nom de Cliff NOBLES & Co. Il se compose notamment de Benny WILLIAMS (basse) Bobby TUCKER (guitare) Robert MARSHALL (batterie) qui deviendront la base du groupe instrumental MFSB par la suite.
C'est le producteur Jesse JAMES qui leur permet d'enregistrer sur le label 'Phil-La of Soul'.
L'album proposé est leur premier. Principalement instrumental, il contient quelques titres chantés notamment "Love is all right" dont "The horse" est la version instrumentale.
Parmi les instrumentaux, on trouve:
- "Boogaloo down Broadway" - chanté par Fantastic Johnny C (1967)
- "Yes I'm ready" - chanté par Barbara MASON (1965)
For some reason, I came to believe the title track had lyrics. This obviously is the original, so I stand corrected. Seeing this album includes an instrumental of Boogaloo down Broadway, do you have the Fantastic Johnny C’s album on the same label? My older sister had that single when we were kids. I’d love to hear it again if you have it. In any case, thank you for this and for keeping Rien que des vinyls up and running over the years.
